ePURO FAQS
Do you need to sweep the horizontal part of the system or just the vertical?
You sweep the vertical part of the system using standard brushes. The horizontal should be checked periodically.
Does it run all the time?
Yes, it uses about the same amount of electricity as an average light bulb. You can get an emergency switch as an additional extra but the only time you would really turn it off is if the chimney is being swept or if the stove will be unused for a long period of time. The only other time it would be switched off would be during a power cut.
Can you use a standard rain cap and bird guard?
Yes you can use a standard ME terminal, which won’t affect the draft in the system.
What is the voltage going through?
15 to 30 kV.
What voltage connection is required?
230V connection
Will the chimney sweep brushes damage the ePURO?
No, the blade of the electrode is made using spring steel, so will deform during sweeping and then spring back into place. A standard sweeping brush will not damage the system, you sweep it the same way you would any other chimney.
How often does it need to be cleaned?
We recommend getting your chimney swept a minimum of twice a year, when burning wood or solid fuel, once at the end of the heating season to remove any build-up of soot and once prior to the start of the heating season to ensure any bird or insect nests have been removed, if required. There is no need to increase the frequency of sweeping where the ePURO has been installed.
What happens if you don’t get it cleaned or often enough?
This will lead to flocculation (clumping) of the particles, which will start to reduce the diameter of the flue, if left unswept. This will reduce draft and prevent the stove from operating efficiently. This will occur in any flue where solid fuel is being burned and the chimney is not being maintained, whether or not the e puro filter is being used.
