Challenge
The challenge was to supply and install 22 system chimneys with diameters of Ø450, Ø550, and Ø600. These chimneys were mounted on a mast that was delivered in sections and carefully lowered by crane into a confined void through the hospital roof. Adding to the complexity, the installation took place in January, requiring meticulous planning and execution to ensure the project was completed safely and efficiently despite challenging winter conditions.
Solution
The systems chosen were the Schiedel ICS Plus system in Ø250, which is T200 P1 W V2 rated, tested and approved for use on condensing appliances and a Schiedel ICS system in Ø350 which is a T450 N1 W V2/ D V3 System tested and approved for use on Biomass applications. With their engineered joint design and Superwool insulation - these Systems look identical from the outside, which is a major plus for architects and customers looking for symmetry in their designs.
The Customer
The customer for the project was the Department of Education, Culture, and Sport. The architectural work was carried out by the Highland Council, known locally as Comhairle na Gaidhealtachd, in collaboration with the consultant firm Rybka. The main contractor responsible for executing the construction was G A Barnie Building Services, ensuring the project was delivered to high standards.
