General information

A room air-dependent single fireplace, for example a wood-burning stove, draws its combustion air from the living room in which it is installed. Air extraction systems (e.g. domestic ventilation systems), which can create a negative pressure in the living space, therefore have a significant influence on the safe operation of the stove. The installation of a safety device, such as an air pressure switch, is therefore necessary. A room air-independent single fireplace, on the other hand, draws the combustion air required for combustion from outside the house via a separate shaft. This is routed from the outside wall or ideally via a suitable air/flue gas chimney system (LAS) directly to the installation site of the fireplace. The designation F90 stands for a fire resistance class of components or chimneys. For example, "F" stands for fire resistance class and "90" for a resistance period of 90 minutes in the event of a standard fire.

A Meidinger disk is a cover plate that is fitted to the end of the chimney head. The inventor and thus namesake was the physicist Heinrich Meidinger (* January 29, 1831 in Frankfurt am Main - † October 11, 1905 in Karlsruhe).

Products

Yes, we have chimneys that are suitable for a fireplace operated independently of the ambient air. These are our ABSOLUT, ABSOLUT PARAT, AVANT, AVANT PARAT, KERANOVA, MULTI, SIH PARAT, SIK and SEK chimneys.

Yes, we offer some flue gas and chimney systems in a storey-high version. We use the suffix "PARAT" in our product names for this purpose. You can therefore purchase our ABSOLUT, AVANT or SIH as PARAT.

Schiedel has a large selection of chimney systems. First and foremost, we differentiate our systems according to the material - stainless steel or ceramic. Secondly, we differentiate between the functionality. For example, you can purchase chimneys for solid (logs, wood chips etc.), liquid (oil etc.) or gaseous fuels from us. We also differentiate between our systems in terms of application or heating technology - room air-dependent, room air-independent, single occupancy, multiple occupancy, suitable for passive houses, condensing boiler technology, low-temperature technology, conventional heating technology, high pressure 5000 Pa.

The classification is defined by a classification key, e.g. "T400 N1 W 3 G50", which is usually made up of several components. In our example, "T400" stands for the temperature class, "N1" for the gas tightness/pressure class, "W" for the condensation resistance class, "3" for the corrosion resistance class and "G50" for the soot fire resistance class (specifying a distance to combustible building materials). Depending on the product, the fire resistance class can also be added at the end of the key, for example "LA90".

For our KINGFIRE models, we use the abbreviation "S" for logs and "C" for Combustion Control. The KINGFIRE CLASSICO S is therefore a log stove without combustion control. A KINGFIRE GRANDE SC, on the other hand, is a log-burning stove with an optional combustion control option.

Planning

For reasons of immission control law, chimney outlets must comply with §19 of the 1st Federal Immission Control Ordinance (1st BImSchV) when connecting fireplaces for solid fuels since January 1, 2022. Fireplaces for solid fuels that were installed after December 31, 2021 must be installed in such a way that the chimney outlet opening is located close to the ridge:

is located close to the ridge. The horizontal distance from the ridge must be smaller than the horizontal distance from the eaves.
The vertical distance from the ridge must be greater than its horizontal distance from the ridge.
Overhangs the ridge by at least 40 centimeters.

When choosing the location of a stove, the distance to combustible materials, surfaces and room ceilings and walls plays a role. Distances are precisely defined by law. Let's start with the base, because of course the floor on which the fireplace stands must not be flammable. However, this does not mean you have to say goodbye to your beautiful parquet or floorboards. However, you must ensure that a non-combustible protection, e.g. in the form of a glass or steel plate, is placed between the floor and the fireplace. The size of this protective plate is also regulated to ensure that your home is effectively protected from flying sparks. This means that the base plate must protrude at least 30 cm beyond the stove to the sides and at least 50 cm to the front - this applies to all stove models. If the stove has side viewing panels, the panel must be extended towards the rear wall.

For our commercial customers, we offer software to calculate the chimney system and the stove themselves. This online tool is called"Schiedel Profi".
